Three hands. One chip bank. How confident is your read?

All games

Hand 1 of 3 · Bank 100 chips

How to play

Start with 100 imaginary chips. Each hand shows three authored word-association routes. Read the printed table rule and stake 10, 25 or 50 chips on the route with the highest value. No money, random draw, graph measurement or casino odds are involved: this is a confidence puzzle.

Route value = 10 × listed theme words − 8 × listed broad words − number of links. The printed theme-word list is the scoring vocabulary for this hand, rather than an exhaustive definition of the theme. Count only middle words. A final tie goes to the earlier route letter. Worked example: Red → paint → art → Blue has 3 links; if “paint” is a theme word and “art” is broad, its value is 10 − 8 − 3 = −1.

The highest-value route returns twice your stake (net gain = stake). Second place returns your stake (no change). Third place returns nothing (net loss = stake). The bank carries into the next hand; unaffordable stakes become unavailable. Finish all three hands, or stop if your bank falls below 10 chips.

Check the payout after each hand, then choose Deal next hand. This pause and the bank are saved if you reload. Each hand can be played once. Reveal ends an unfinished table without a scored result; you cannot wager after seeing the answers. The next table starts a new bank of 100. Practice replays are labelled. Daily changes at 00:00 UTC. This authored collection repeats 8 daily puzzles and has 4 separate practice puzzles. The saved-progress notice shows whether this browser or the server is keeping your progress.
